Freedom Farmers: New Zealand Artists Growing Ideas

Auckland Art Gallery’s largest overview of contemporary New Zealand art for 25 years opens next Saturday 26 October. Freedom Farmers: New Zealand Artists Growing Ideas traces the ways New Zealand artists are using ideas of utopia, sustainability and artistic freedom in their work to encourage discussions about creativity.

View installations by et al., Dan Arps, Mladen Bizumic and Xin Cheng; photography by Ava Seymour, Edith Amituanai, Wayne Barrar and Allan McDonald; sculpture by Francis Upritchard; and paintings by Stella Corkery. Watch films by Steve Carr and Louise Menzies, and see ceramics by Isobel Thom and Tessa Laird. Enter Freedom Farmers to find these and many more artworks, and join us in a compelling conversation about New Zealand now and about how we shape its future. Entry is free

26 October 2013 – 23 February 2014. Level 1 exhibition spaces.

We are hosting a range of free events on opening weekend to celebrate Freedom Farmers. Listen to exhibiting artists talk about their work, join a curator’s tour, or watch a pottery demonstration.
