Art as Woman by Dewey Edward Chester. Dedicated to all women readers of Yareah magazine. Art is everywhere and up to you!
ART AS WOMAN.
She is the creator of beautiful things.
To reveal Art and conceal herself is her aim.
Her critics translate their impression of her beauty. But their translation becomes self-reflection.
Ugly critics are corrupt, without being kind. This is a fault.
Kind critics are cultivated. For these there is hope. They understand that beautiful art is simply beautiful art.
There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral painting. Pictures are well drawn or badly drawn. That is all. An artist’s moral life consists in her perfect use of an imperfect medium. She has nothing to prove.
She has no ethics. Ethics will change her style. She must not be burdened, but allowed artistic expression of everything.
Her language is her art. Her form has rhythm, supporting surface and symbol. A critic seeking her source does so at his own peril.
Critics who read her symbols do so at their own peril. The critic is like Caliban seeing his own face in glass. He becomes a spectator looking at himself.
Diversity of opinion shows her art is new, complex, and vital. When critics disagree she is satisfied.
Critics will forgive her for creating art they understand. But her intention is creating art they don’t understand; but everyone else does!
