Marc Rubin joins Spencer Hill Gallery in Corning, NY

Spencer Hill Gallery is pleased to announce Marc Rubin to its roster of artists. From 1990-2001, Rubin painted weekly under the tutelage of world-renowned painter, Thomas S. Buechner. He continues to paint representational oil paintings in the tradition of the Dutch seventeenth century Still Life masters with his own masterful eye for design, detail, and light. Exploring everyday objects in their simplest form, Rubin communicates presence in his you-are-there realism. By investigating ordinary objects-often the most overlooked-and then placing them in a simple composition, Rubin transforms the ordinary into extraordinary by imbuing them with a spiritual presence, much like that of the vanitas tradition of the Dutch masters, such that they become larger than life. By condensing a work of art to its essential elements of color and shape, the artist communicates and translates emotions inviting meaning and evoking story.

Having now included Rubin to its roster, the story at Spencer Hill Gallery continues. Thomas Buechner painted the same way he demanded of his students: to paint truthfully to the highest degree of deftness of brush. And now one of Buechner’s own has returned to occupy the same space as a represented artist matching the highest quality once learned as his student.

In addition to his work as a painter, Rubin is an award-winning graphic designer and owner of Marc Rubin Associates, which offers business-aligned creative solutions to graphic communications needs. He serves on the executive board of directors for the Arnot Art Museum, and is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Design Management Institute, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He served on the board of The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes for twelve years, and is a past board member of the Upstate New York chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
