Musical Poems by Natascha Hoover. With Aloha

The Geisha Leans In

The Geisha leans in–leans forward, as it

were. Hair pinned, decorative, dangling balls

of blue – a gift from her Japanese mother;

also a French whore.

The man lifts his chin–toward her, as it

were. Watch-hand, steady, gangrene fingernails

of yellow – a gift from his French father;

also an American pimp.

While she rubbed

gloss on my lips

she looked deep

into my eyes

and I wanted

to kiss

Taking (her) face

into my hands

I pulled (her) close

and drew my thumbs

along the tops

of (her) cheek bones

toward (her) ears.

She kept saying, “ahhh pro pohhhh,”

To over-decorate her points

As she was an elephant

Struggling to get out of a mud-hole

(And just as undignified.)

As if she had any!

was using her Latin…

Bluffed, ritualized Intellectuality: BURSTS!

Good-bye, Au revoir

In the morning,

the Spotted-Necked Pigeons,

Coo’d in such a French way:

“Au reeevoirrr…”

“Au reevoirrr…”

(But they never went away.)

“Au reevoirrrrrr…”
