Vancouver exhibition. Composing Beauty at Bau-Xi Gallery. Artist Stuart Slind. From June 27 – July 11, 2013. Opening reception: Thursday June 27th, 6-8pm. Artist attendance.
Bau-Xi Gallery is pleased to present Composing Beauty, by Canadian painter Stuart Slind. In this latest body of work, Slind explores the serenity and repose to be found in still lifes of everyday objects.
Invoking his classical technique to oil painting, Slind approaches these minimalist landscapes with reverence. Using only light, a modest colour palette and a simple composition Slind captures perfectly the inherent harmony of these objects in their environment.
“I follow the passage of light as it moves around the fruit and along the gentle folds of cloth. For me, this gentle stillness evokes a deeper meaning.”
Slind studied art at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and the Seattle Academy of Realist Art. His true direction as an artist came from his travels in Northern Europe. It was in the galleries and museums of Amsterdam, Oslo and other European cities that he found the historical and cultural ground in which to locate his paintings.
