Storefront. From New York to the Dominican Republic

Storefront for Art and Architecture announced today its plans to bring its Storefront Series events to an international audience to promote and encourage discourse of alternative and emerging art, architecture and design practices around the globe. The inaugural Storefront International Series (Storefront I.S.) program will take place from June 25-June 30, 2013 in the Dominican Republic. Subsequent series in other regions are in research and development stages.

Storefront I.S. is a nomadic project that takes Storefront’s event series to different cities and territories around the globe. Establishing a transversal format of inquiry, Storefront I.S. works with local individuals and institutions to identify relevant topics and address the most pressing challenges of a region by providing alternative frameworks of discussion. Going beyond social, disciplinary or ideological boundaries, Storefront I.S. aims to break established lines of division to produce spaces of collective thought, reflection and ultimately action.

With a mix of both local and global experts from the fields of art, architecture, literature, politics, real state, anthropology, economics, technology and science, as well as citizens at large, Storefront I.S. articulates local desires within global understandings.
