Climatic Change Within A Heart

Climatic Change Within A Heart

Yareah Magazine current topic for our next issue (38) is Climatic Change. Of course, you are free of focus on whatever aspect of the subject. This is Sharon Catley vision of a Climatic Change. Enjoy your day, Yareah friends!

Heart Phases

Your heart is made of ICE

Like every tear you ever cried has frozen round it

Forming a thick, frosty, protective barrier

I try to wrap it in my hands, melt away your pain

But I am pushed away by your glacial suspicions

But other times

Your heart is made of FIRE

Red hot with rage, anger and repressed passion

I try to get close

To cool down your feverous angst

To calm your chaotic emotions

But the flames lick at me, burn me, drive me back

Your heart is made of STONE

Gray, heavy, dense, impenetrable

I put my warm soft cheek against the cold hard surface

And wait

But you are numb

And cannot feel me there

Yet other times

Your heart is made of GLASS

Brittle, fragile, transparent

I look inside

And I can see everything that you have ever loved

I want to be in there too

Filling up those still empty spaces…

But my image reflects back at me from the surface

And I can find no way in

Your heart is made of FLESH

And you are all too human

Torn, bleeding, raw

From all the trouble

And hurt the world has piled upon you

Scar tissue growing upon scar tissue

Let me spread my love

Like a soothing salve over your wounds

Let me wrap my soul

Like a healing bandage round your sore rough edges

Lower your shield of mistrust

And lose yourself in my affections

That first night

You said you could hear my heart

Beating from across the room

My heart calls out to yours

Like a baby bird crying for its Mother

My name is Sharon Catley and I live in Vancouver, Canada. I work as an IT Manager and in my spare time write songs, stories and poetry. I am status Métis (mix of First Nation and Northern European heritage) As my poetry is most often about love I have been introduced as “The Poetess of the Heart” when I perform my work locally. I have created a fun interactive program to encourage child literacy, which I present (dressed as a crazy cat lady) in schools and libraries. It features cat “litter”ature - poetry, songs and dances all about cats.
