From Pigment to Pixel: Color in Modern and Contemporary Art. Ready to dive into color? Let curators, conservators, and educators guide you in an exciting exploration of color in painting, sculpture, photography, design, and new media works in MoMA’s collection. Technical analysis and studio exercises enhance class discussions and an understanding of the innovative uses of color in art and design—from the rational to the exuberant.

Five Puzzles of Contemporary Art. Is contemporary art a mystery to you? If so, enroll in this exciting five-week course to learn why artists such as Cindy Sherman and Jeff Koons challenge our notions of “beauty” or create art that might not be considered “original.”

Experimenting With Collage. In this eight-week virtual studio course you will learn how artists like Pablo Picasso, Joseph Cornell, and Robert Rauschenberg have been inspired to create MoMA masterworks in collage, and you’ll make your own art using this environment-friendly technique.

Materials and Techniques of Postwar Abstract Painting. Who were the great artists of the postwar era, and why are they so influential, even for today’s artists? In this 10-week virtual studio course, you’ll find out by painting abstract compositions and examining the inspirations and challenges of artists like Jackson Pollock and Barnett Newman.

Modern Art, 1880–1945. Have you always wanted to learn about the origins of modern art? This 10-week course investigates the key works and major figures of early-20th-century art represented in the Museum’s rich and fascinating collection.

Modern and Contemporary Art, 1945–1989. How was the rise of consumer culture, feminism, and technological innovation reflected in the art created after World War II? Find out more about these important trends in this 10-week course and, in the instructor-led version, share your ideas with the instructor and your classmates.
