Personal is Political at Matchbox Studios Wellington, NZ

Matchbox Studios 166 Cuba St Te Aro Wellington, Wgn 6021 New Zealand.

The phrase ‘the personal is political’ was a frequently heard feminist battle cry of the 1960’s and 1970’s with many second-wave feminists exploring the ideas it encapsulates in their discussions. The ‘political’ of this phrase isn’t a narrow definition that refers to electoral politics but instead is a broader notion that has to do with power relationship and as the phrase suggests our individual involvement with them. While the Woman’s Movement and the feminists of the 1960s and 1970s who drove it made significant progress in fighting for change, systems of power are still a dominant force in the live of almost everyone today.

A group exhibition that explores this concept will join in Wellington, New Zealand. Launch event Tues 11th June 5.30 – 8.00pm (gold coin donation). Exhibition Runs Tuesday 11th- Sunday 23rd June 2013.
