Outstanding by Martin Martelli

Martin Martelli is a young self-taught painter from Ljubljana. He was born in Celje (Slovenia) in 1982. He started abstract painting from an early age, when he admired the work of the artists Jackson Pollock and Georgia O Keeffe. Raised in a small country-town, independence has fueled his free thinking in color usage as well as technique experimentation. Versatility and experience with mixed media gives each piece a feeling of depth and a certain mystique. He has a desire to create, capture and preserve a true beauty of art in each painting in hopes to create a happy escape for the viewer. For him, painting is a connection to a source of higher power and will.

Some paintings are purposeful, some are experimental, and others are as if they painted themselves without the artist even knowing what the end result may be. Most of his paintings are produced by the latter. Layer by layer the painting takes on its own form as Martin begin painting, often with no preconceived idea of what he will end up with. He likes the idea that each painting begins a journey, ending at a beautiful destination.

Martin often finds his thoughts ascending into outer space. The ubiquitous universe, devoid of time, laden with light and energy ignites his imagination like nothing on this planet. The struggle of finding your place between the farthest away bodies and the mind which resides in your own is what Martin tries to convey through his paintings. His paintings also reflect his daily response to nature’s beauty, her dynamic forces and the mystery of creation.

He believes art is a reflection of fingerprints on our soul. Those whom have inspired and touched us, ideas, visions, and experiences become etched into our soul and arise through creative expression.”

Art has the power to make one see things in a new light. It helps as see the beauty in things that some may overlook, or for granted.

Martin works in several mediums using oil, water color, acrylics, pastels and chalk, as well as combined techniques. Explosive abstract art paintings, contemporary mixed media collage art, recycled art and his intricate and obsessive circle drawings are just some of the styles you will uncover when you delve into his world.

He believes there are no limits, no boundaries and that everything is possible.
