Best Winter Photo. ‘A walk down by the sea – this ice mushroom glittered in the Sun.’ The Ice Mushroom by the Swedish artist Echi Aaberg.
Mountains and oaks covered by snow…, frozen rivers and silver skies…, a distant hut with a smoking chimney…, nobody in the open…, people is telling secrets around the stove. Winter! Everybody has its personal image about winter but if we should depict its ‘image’, we should include the previous elements.
Sometimes, the forest prevents us from seeing the tree. How about the details? Which animals are hiding in that tree? What happened to the fallen leaves? What are ants doing now? Details are important or we would be always depicting the same image… Dull!
Happy artists as Echi Aaberg knows how to show details… or rather: ‘the detail’. That simple detail which suggests us feelings, and these feelings compose our personal image of a place, with a determinate weather and a determinate life.
Echi Aaberg has just taken this photo, The Ice Mushroom. And yes, with only one element, a small fungus, we can complete the rest of the landscape, the emotion she felt in front of the mushroom and even fly over Sweden (her country) and get to Lapland, where winter has its roots.
Congratulations Echi for this fantastic photo. Have a nice day… and dress warm!
