words unspoken by jenean c. gilstrap. available on paperback and kindle edition

the world of pearls

remnants of shattered dreams drifted round her

like so many strands of broken pearls

that no longer had a string

that had long since lost their effervescence

lackluster balls

no longer a part of anything whole

these streams of yesterday’s dreams

drifted to the splintered floor of her life

empty without him

daylight became just another torture to be endured

countless hours of pretend

in that world of if only

called reality

night alone in her dream world of him

the burning hellfire and brimstone

scratched from the pulpit

of her southern baptist childhood

when all else was shut out

by the darkness she had come to love

hiding the sins of her heart

the lust of her soul

where she became who she was

where she was no longer alone

but with her thoughts of him

of them

where all sins committed

were well worth the price of admission

when memories held her close

caressed her heart

whispered softly into her ear

where dreams

were the playground of their desire

their love acted out

love acted out under moons apart

and lives apart

in the dreamworld of broken pearls

in that other world

the world of

windblown time

lost now

the aroma of his light

that once had lit the way

out of her own darkness

the fragrance of his love

cast in a thousand wisps of windblown time

and with the loss of these

these filaments of her

there remained

only her mind

and her heart

her mind now shattered into fragments

emptied of its life flow

it too began to disintegrate to dissolve

into tarnished memories

memories tainted by that demon time

fading into the forest of forgotten faces

leaving only her heart

the heart that once beat to the drums

of ancient mariners

that beat as one with his

now slowed to shallow pulses

flickering dimly in the night of her sorrow

disappearing into the dank void

of what had been

lost now

Jenean C Gilstrap

Since childhood, Ms. Gilstrap has had a love of words-of writing and other arts. An individualist, she chooses not to follow any pre-conceived pattern for the outlay of these words – rather, she allows them the freedom to forge their own path as they make their way from her heart to pen to paper. Her art work involves both photography and mixed media on large canvasses. She is a weekly featured poet in Yareah Magazine where her works have appeared for more than a year. Her piece The Granite God was the winning poem in Painted Bride Quarterly Sidebar #12 [2012]. Her work has been featured in performance poetry theatrical productions in Louisiana and her short story, Retribution, published in the Helicon Literary Magazine there. She and her gypsywomanworld blog are included as character/story elements in Ghost Key, the fictional work of award-winning author Trish MacGregor. Her first volume of poetry [2013], words unspoken, is available in both paperback and on kindle at amazon. She currently divides her time between her home in Louisiana and the east coast as she completes her second volume of poetry to be published in 2013.

As the cricket season draws to a close, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) can report a surge in popularity for guests seeking a full day of luxury hospitality at Lord’s during a Test Match in 2016. In the Home of Cricket’s most iconic venues – the Captains’ Lounge and Marylebone Suite – hospitality packages which included a hearty breakfast, sumptuous four-course lunch and luxury afternoon tea, sold out quickly for the first three days of the England v Sri Lanka and England v Pakistan Investec Test Matches. Private Boxes with the best views of the action for up to 18 guests also sold out fast for the same days. MCC revealed a sharp increase in revenue for its 2016 Sri Lanka Test Match hospitality packages compared with 2014 when the team last played England at Lord’s. Revenues for hospitality were up by nearly 30% over the same period in 2014 whilst private box sale revenues were up by a healthy 60%. Nick Kenton, MCC Head of Sales, Meetings & Events and Hospitality, said: “2016 has been a fantastic year for enjoying a day of cricket whilst experiencing the very best food, drink and hospitality that Lord’s has to offer. “This year’s sales figures show that hospitality packages at Lord’s were in huge demand and continue to be a key part of the summer sporting calendar.” Lord’s also expects high demand for its new hospitality packages, to be released this autumn for 2017 matches. These include England v South Africa from 6th to 10th July and England v West Indies from 7th to 11th September. Packages for the England v Ireland Royal London One-Day International on 7th May 2017 are also expected to sell out in record time. Details of all hospitality options at Lord’s can be found on its website
