Johnny Depp starring a fantastic movie The Rum Diary. Directed by Bruce Robinson and based on the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson.
Yesterday, I watched the controversial movie The Rum Diary by Bruce Robinson and starring by Johnny Depp, Giovanni Ribisi and Aaron Eckhart, among others. It’s fantastic! One of the best movies I’ve seen in the last times and I cannot understand the bad critics.
Of course, the film criticizes the dreams of money and superficial ambitions of Western world. In my opinion, this is not a reason to write bad critics but to meditate its truths. A wrong ethics which started in the 60s (as the movie) and has been developing all of these decades to arrive at the current economic crisis (economic and moral).
Furthermore, The Rum Diary is not a sad film in spite it tells about corruption in the press and institutions, underdevelopment, environmental damage and every kind of abuses. The Rum Diary is a very entertaining movie, with downright funny moments
The Rum Diary film is based on the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson and it was released on October 28, 2011.
If you have the chance, I recommend you this movie. Super!
Plot: Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) is a hard-drinking American journalist who takes a job at a besieged newspaper in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His Surrealist editor, Lotterman, orders him to write silly articles about tourists and horoscopes, Paul wants more. Then, Paul knows Sala, an equally alcoholic reporter, and their adventure starts. Sanderson, a wealthy entrepreneur, hires Paul to flack for a group of investors who plan to buy an island (a natural protected space near the capital) and build a huge resort. Paul ethics begins to awake in un unexpected way.
Furthermore, Paul falls in love with Sanderson girl-friend, the beautiful Chenault. Loyalties face challenges when he and Sala get in trouble with locals. Is alcohol the only responsible?
