Mama Movie top box office and a great success in the United States the last weekend.
Mama, a supernatural thriller directed by Andres Muschietti, has grossed $28.4 million in the United States last weekend. A big surprise!
Developed in Spain, shot in Canada and with the participation of Barcelona film producer Toma 78, also specialized in conducting television spots, Mama has cost $15 million (a figure below the average of Hollywood productions) but the first weekend has started to give benefits. It has been a great success in the United States… and we suppose it will be a success in Europe and the rest of the world soon.
Mama is a gothic horror story that has two girls as protagonists, Victoria and Lilly. They disappeared mysteriously in a forest after his father killed his mother due to economic problems.
Five years later, they are found alive and their uncle Lucas ( Nikolaj Coster-Waldau , celebrated as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones TV series) and his girlfriend Annabel (Jessica Chastain) will take care of them. However, they notice that there is a supernatural presence insisting on care for them… Who was and where is their Mama?
Another good point of the movie is the presence of Jessica Chastain, one of the most current listed actresses, nominated to Oscars 2013 for The darkest night
The film has been produced by J. Miles Dale and Barbara Muschietti and the film director Guillermo del Toro has served as executive producer.
The movie is based on Muschietti 2008 Spanish-language short film of the same name. Originally set for an October 2012 release, it was released in theaters on January 18, 2013.
No doubt, the Argentinean filmmaker Andres Muschietti has made a movie that has some substance. Congratulations!
