Yareah magazine next issue (February 2013) is going to be titled Go On! A very encouraging title. Thus, yesterday I was thinking of an article about the topic. At first, I thought I could write about explorers. Maybe Columbus or Magellan or whoever other brave explorer. After a while, I made a break and went to take a tea. On the table kitchen, it was a book of art history. I started to look through its pictures. The book began with some reproductions of ancient Greek and Roman artwork: the Discus Thrower, the Winged Victory, Laocoon, the portrait of Emperor Marcus Aurelius on horseback … All of them very realistic sculptures, absolutely perfect artworks.

Few pages later, the art changed. Sculptures were disproportionate. Cause: at the end of the 5th century, the great Roman Empire was defeated, spoilt, and disappeared forever. Result: five hundred years of different catastrophes in Western Europe. Invasions, wars, burned crops, starvation, difficult communications… Really difficult life!

What would the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela cathedral think when they walked from France to the Atlantic ocean through the yellow Spain? Go on? Yes, Go on!

And they went on. From one thousand years, they went on building high cathedrals trying to touch the sky.

Suddenly, the book images announced the Renaissance, suddenly I saw different images on my book of art history, suddenly Raphael, Leonardo and Michelangelo paintings were the proof of mankind efforts.

We are in a pessimistic period, in an economical and ethics crisis but we need to go on! To try again to reach the sky and to improve our lives, because things can change and we can help this change.

You know, there is no evil that lasts a thousand years. Ask Leonardo da Vinci!
