The Fallen Forest and other awesome poems

The Fallen Forest and other awesome poems

the fallen forest

ever so often

ever so softly

my thoughts

to you

the sight

of you

the only sight

of you

i have

that imitation sight

imitation flesh

carved from the

living cells

of a

fallen forest

a fallen forest

if you

are not there

and i am not there

and only the

dreams of our hearts

make themselves

if my

heart breaks

cracks crashes

like a fallen tree

under the cutting edge

of a

dark night’s axe

will the crackling sounds

of my broken heart

be heard

when it rips apart

are not

in the

fallen forest

the rat and the trap

his rat

he had set the trap

with his thoughts

his words

and she

built the cage

the heart cage

her need

her want

the door of the cage

stayed open

no need to shut

each word of his

each insinuation

each implication

of each word of his

kept the rat there

inside the cage

of her own making

she dared not escape

would not escape

for how could she

each word

her soul

her spirit

without them

she did not exist

could not exist

round and round

the treadmill kept turning

and she kept running

round and round

with each syllable

each inflection

of his thought

in each word

sent by him

to the rat

in her cage

the lizard dance

am i real

is that the deal

am i just in my own mind

or did you in yours me find

if i am here

and not there

do i exist

if i am there

and not here

have i been missed

if i am there

and i am here

have i been kissed

if i exist

i’ll hold your heart in my fist

so my love you will not miss

if i exist

heady words to feed upon your heart

but this is just the start

of the

lizard dance

  • another weekly thanks for the wonderful support and encouragement offered here at YAREAH with Isabel, Martin and Jack! you guys are the best and “all” my voices send their heartfelt gratitude – here’s to all those words unspoken – and now, spoken!

Jenean C Gilstrap

Since childhood, Ms. Gilstrap has had a love of words-of writing and other arts. An individualist, she chooses not to follow any pre-conceived pattern for the outlay of these words – rather, she allows them the freedom to forge their own path as they make their way from her heart to pen to paper. Her art work involves both photography and mixed media on large canvasses. She is a weekly featured poet in Yareah Magazine where her works have appeared for more than a year. Her piece The Granite God was the winning poem in Painted Bride Quarterly Sidebar #12 [2012]. Her work has been featured in performance poetry theatrical productions in Louisiana and her short story, Retribution, published in the Helicon Literary Magazine there. She and her gypsywomanworld blog are included as character/story elements in Ghost Key, the fictional work of award-winning author Trish MacGregor. Her first volume of poetry [2013], words unspoken, is available in both paperback and on kindle at amazon. She currently divides her time between her home in Louisiana and the east coast as she completes her second volume of poetry to be published in 2013.
