Thomas Weinberger photography is the proof: Art is everywhere!
Review by Isabel del Rio
It’s easy to imagine an artist inspired in front of a sunset, walking in a forest, seeing the nice smile of a beautiful woman. It’s easy to feel the urge to take a photo in front of a topic that our books have said it’s artistic. However, who can see beauty among factories, among irons, fumes or wires? Who is able to detect the beauty of something ugly? Who can transform practical buildings into sublime landscapes, into Art? Of course, only an artist.
Thomas Weinberger is currently exhibiting at Bernhard Knaus, Frankfurt /Main (Niddastrasse 84 D-60329) photos of gloomy factories, empty highways, soulless airports and ordinary streets. This doesn’t sound very exciting, I know. However, Thomas Weinberger has got to take the most fantastic photos of conventional environments I have ever seen and these places won’t be any more conventional but unique and, at least, source of inspirations for viewers.
What’s the touch? Where is the necessary light, angle or spot of sugar to turn a silly moment into an eternal situation of immensity?
When I see Thomas Weinberger‘s photos I cannot see places of work, sweat or stress. I see the greatness of humanity and maybe this is the reason why nobody is present in Thomas Weinberger’s photography or… to be exact, we are present just on the other side of the camera, just on the same side the artist is, just trying to remember the artistic part of our souls because, in the end, art is everywhere while a person can feel as artists do and the job of the artist is to show us the way, to place us on the other side.
Congratulations Thomas Weinberger.
Exhibition from November 1 to December 8, 2012
