Sherlock Holmes again is news: ‘Sherlock’ is the name of the last TV series about this eccentric attractive fictional personality.
Review: Sherlock Holmes (only Sherlock in the last TV series) is the main character that more has been made into film. Now he is again the protagonist of a British TV series. ‘Sherlock’, a modern update series where the famous detective and his doctor partner, Watson, are solving crimes in 21st century London.
I had read about this TV series and about this new Sherlock Holmes: a computer expert, not smoker, and hooked to mobile. I love Sherlock Holmes by Conan Doyle and this idea of a teenager without pipe disgusted me. In fact, I have always though that the best of Conan Doyle short stories (and maybe the only good) are the characters, because the plots are a little absurd.
However, in the end, yesterday I start to see ‘Sherlock’, the TV series created by Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and interpreted by Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Una Stubbs. I must confess, I was delighted.
Conan Doyle is as peculiar as always and still more aggressive against Scotland Yard’s and its inefficient inspectors (do you remember Lestrade?). Doctor Watson is now a fairly young veteran of the Afghan war, less adoring and more active, what is a very positive point.
Good rhythm and lots of jokes and ironies. You can spend a fantastic while.
After an unbroadcast pilot in 2009, the first Sherlock series of three 90-minute episodes was transmitted on BBC One and BBC HD in 2010. A second series of three episodes is broadcasted this year. In 2013, a third series is scheduled. Reviews has been positive, many of them commending the quality of the writing, performances and direction. Sherlock has been nominated for numerous awards and I think honestly it deserves them.
