Roncesvalles Pyrenees. Yareah magazine next issue is going to be titled Nature and if we speak about Nature, we should speak about Roncesvalles.
Roncesvalles, full of history and legends. You cannot be nearer of God.
Roncesvalles is a place in the Pyrenees (Spain), up in the hills, touching the clouds. The first time I was there, it was dark. I arrived at night. I slept in a typical wooden house of big roof made of slate. I was tired, outside was apparently nothing, except silent…
I dreamt: The Song of Roland, St. James Way, Monasteries, wars, distant bells ringing… How many legends around Roncesvalles!
In the morning, I opened my windows room and…What a view! It was the most beautiful landscape I have never seen, I will never see again.
I dressed quickly and I went to explore. Little paths, music of water, rain, immensity.
There is a gray church with a Virgin: Virgin of Roncesvalles. It is the first step for the pilgrims who try to start their Spanish St. James Way… Mother Nature will go with them. Cosmopolitan pilgrims who come from France, maybe from Belgium… I met German, Australian, Norwegian people. I met the whole mankind. Then, I met Lord land.
Bells ringing again, I was near the small river Urrobi, at an altitude of 900 meters, in Navarra, in the Pyrenees, about 8 kilometres from the French frontier… I felt in every place. I felt in Charlemagne times. I felt dancing with the spirits of our Neolithic White Goddess.
If you have the chance, visit Roncesvalles: You cannot be nearer of God.
