Heat wave, by Jenean Gilstrap

Heat wave, by Jenean Gilstrap

heat wave

i feel a

heat wave

comin’ on

from down deep

in my soul

heat wave all

bubblin’ boilin’

steam risin’ up

through all those

crimson layers

curlin’ and swirlin’

sneakin’ its way

right up from

my red painted toes

all the way up to

my frizzled fried hair

i feel a

heat wave

comin’ on

stickin’ its little ole

self up through

my frazzled veins

like a

night train

revin’ its big engines

up the hard steel tracks

of your

sideways glances

into my heart

oh, yeah,

i feel a

heat wave comin’ on

comin’ on down

those tracks

rammin’ its way

right straight into

the tunnel of love

takin’ no prisoners

on its run

leavin’ nothin’ to

the sun

oh, yeah,

i feel a

heat wave comin’ on…

Summerlove poems, by Jenean Gilstrap

i ain’t nev’a been loved

i been a lotta thangs

in my life

been somebody’s child

somebody’s wife

taught sundy school

an’ carried a knife

lived in good

and lived in strife

but one thang

i ain’t nev’a been is

had sweet nothin’s

whispered in my ear

even had somebody

call me dear

stayed with one

for more’n a year

and once or twice

i shed a tear

but i ain’t nev’a been

oh yeah, i been hugged on

and kissed on

an’ i been loved on

but i ain’t

true blue

through and through

not till now

not till

Love poems, by Jenean Gilstrap

Love poems, by Jenean Gilstrap

the invitation

your eyes

invite me in

in through the door

opened to but a few

the door kept locked

and chained by

desolation desperation

your eyes

unwrap my soul

baring my own lonely heart

unwinding undoing

the ties placed round it

holding the pieces in place

till your healing comes home

your eyes

undress my body

revealing the wanton

undergarments of

of wasted life

exposing my naked desire

opening the pores

of past and present

your eyes

lay me down

upon your soul’s pallet

too long empty

barren and brittle

waiting longing

for the passion of love

to ignite it once again

your eyes

beseech my own

to warm your cold

colorless frigid heart

wrap it in crimson tides

hold it close

heart to heart

the two made one

your eyes

invite me in…

Jenean C Gilstrap

Since childhood, Ms. Gilstrap has had a love of words-of writing and other arts. An individualist, she chooses not to follow any pre-conceived pattern for the outlay of these words – rather, she allows them the freedom to forge their own path as they make their way from her heart to pen to paper. Her art work involves both photography and mixed media on large canvasses. She is a weekly featured poet in Yareah Magazine where her works have appeared for more than a year. Her piece The Granite God was the winning poem in Painted Bride Quarterly Sidebar #12 [2012]. Her work has been featured in performance poetry theatrical productions in Louisiana and her short story, Retribution, published in the Helicon Literary Magazine there. She and her gypsywomanworld blog are included as character/story elements in Ghost Key, the fictional work of award-winning author Trish MacGregor. Her first volume of poetry [2013], words unspoken, is available in both paperback and on kindle at amazon. She currently divides her time between her home in Louisiana and the east coast as she completes her second volume of poetry to be published in 2013.
