Best and worst color: read vs. yellow

In my opinion the best color is red (especially crimson). Red is the most intense and emotive color because it’s the color of love and lovers. But it’s also the most important color. Do you remember the coat of the kings? They were always dark red (also for Napoleon or Catherina II of Russia). Furthermore, during centuries Popes have dressed in red too (now, they dress in white, a more discrete color for more discrete times) imitating the old Roman senators, their robes were the hallmark of a crimson trim.

Therefore, red connotes luxury, wealth and sophistication and the most appreciated flowers are usually red.

The worst color is yellow. It’s considered an optimistic color (it’s the color of the Sun) but it’s studied that people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and little children cry much more in a room painted in that color. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in and it may be unbearable for health (in the psychiatric hospital, Van Gogh’s favorite color was yellow).

In England and France, it’s considers bad luck for actors and actresses. It seems Moliere failed one of his premieres (‘The Imaginary Invalid’) wearing a yellow dress, and in Spain, the Inquisition dressed the poor convicts in yellow.

However and in spite all this studies about colors and their influence in human psychology, I love yellow and I cannot stop thinking of that marvelous song of my childhood by The Beatles.

Lyrics:

In the town where I was born

Lived a man who sailed to sea

And he told us of his life

In the land of submarines

So we sailed up to the sun

Till we found the sea of green

And we lived beneath the waves

In our yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

And our friends are all on board

Many more of them live next door

And the band begins to play

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

[Full speed ahead, Mr. Parker, full speed ahead!

Full speed over here, sir!

Action station! Action station!

Aye, aye, sir, fire!

Heaven! Heaven!]

As we live a life of ease (A life of ease)

Everyone of us (Everyone of us) has all we need (Has all we need)

Sky of blue (Sky of blue) and sea of green (Sea of green)

In our yellow (In our yellow) submarine (Submarine, ha, ha)

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
